G
len Coe is one of the most beautiful places in Scotland. It's rugged beauty and breathtaking slopes are inspiring to say the least. Popular with climbers, you'll frequently see cars parked on all the spaces along the "highway", but rarely see anyone on your path.

This is the Devil's Staircase, Glen Coe. You can find it opposite that famous little white crofter's house with no road to it, on the side of the highway (Near the Pap of Glen Coe). There is a track for hill walkers to go through the West Highland Way, which is a well known walk going for miles and miles through the Highlands. The Devil's Staircase path starts just before the Pap of Glencoe, and goes right through to Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK.

Click to enlargeRannoch Moor. This is a short drive before Glen Coe, and as you can see most of the land is quite flat, and covered with little lochs. We took this photo from one of the first summits of Rannoch Moor, which was only about 300 metres high, but felt much higher, because when we got to the top, the bad weather really set in! The islands below us have trees on them, which you can see if you click on the picture. It's a strange phenomenon, because there are virtually no trees anywhere else. To the right of the water, is the "highway", where we left our car.

View of Glen Coe from the top of the Devil's Staircase. At the bottom of the Munro Mountain, you can just make out the tiny white Crofter's Cottage in the bottom centre of the photo. The cottage is a favourite for photographers, especially tourists, and no wonder, because it really does look amazing, seated at the base of a mountain.
